HAPPENING NOW  inspired by searching for invisible reality of Cairo. Using environmental records, mostly from Cairo . like connected stages : where you could feel its  reality , Looking for a way out of it , trust there's another one we can breathe through it, feel the other, to reach a new coexistence Under a vision of an invisible reality

Just a market

Surrounding sound system installation, 6 speakers within a drawing of an architectural of big and old building using electric wires, each speaker is issuing some environmental recordings that have been manipulated.
This architectural for "Bab El Louq market" downtown, Cairo that is built by Youssef Aslan Cattaui Pasha in 1912 . An edifice of brick and metal ,what it seems today as a simple and poor set of shops it has been originally one of the first best examples of the modern markets. Allover the changes that have occurred in this building in my view reflect what we as people have been transforming into. Somehow, I am trying here to document that these poor changes are due to the painful policy of self ignorance and exhaustion in the daily life needs that acted as an illusion departing us us away from being valued human beings.

Same Sun

one track CD within "Tiny Portraits project " a small renderings of place and memory in sound

a sound track about "Shobra" the largest and most populous neighborhood of Cairo.

It is a Coptic word which means "a village". Muhammad Ali Pasha created it in 1809, originally it wasn't part of Cairo, but today it is in the heart of the city , replete with people and stories, life and pain, rapid and maybe fickle change, education, soul, killing time, presence and that echo inside the human, the affiliation and expansion.

Fagalaat

this track is a part of  Ahmed Bassiouny's last  sound workshop - Bassiouny gave his life in Egyptian revolution 2011-  which resulted in create" Nassibian Orchestra" collective , release a CD and several live concerts in Fagala's streets .

Using environmental and field recordings from an old area in the heart of Cairo called "Fagala" completely has changed, after it was a cultural center, now it has become to  sale and buy area contains hundreds of papers and education books shops  on the other hand ceramic  and bathroom equipment !

So through recordings I saw several hiding faces of the same area.  as its sounds draws many contradictory meanings and experiences.
